Larry D. Balzer, M.D., F.A.A.F.P.
Dr. Balzer, a native of Hooker, Oklahoma, returns to the Panhandle area where he formerly practiced medicine in Hooker, Hugoton and Liberal, Kansas. Graduating from Panhandle A & M College, he then attended the University of Oklahoma College of Medicine, where he served as a Chief Flight Surgeon in the USAF. Dr. Balzer also taught in the School of Healthcare Sciences and received the Air Force Commendation Medal. Following a residency in Family Medicine at Scott AFB Regional Hospital where he served as Chief Resident and later obtained an Added Qualification in Geriatrics. He served as Chairman of the Family Medicine Department of BSA Hospital in Amarillo, Texas, Chief of Staff of the Covenant Hospital of Plainview, Texas, and most recently as Medical Director of the Senior Health Center of Edmond OU. Dr. Balzer received the Top Doctor Award for Geriatrics in Edmond, Oklahoma for five consecutive years, and will bring his superior skill set in Geriatrics to the Panhandle. He was appointed Chief of Medicine at the OU Edmond Hospital for several years, and has a special interest in the care of chronic conditions such as diabetes, hypertension, and heart disease.
Other interests include astronomy, playing the guitar and banjo, and teaching theology. He was the primary author of the Right to Life Amendment for the Southern Baptist Convention of Texas and was a contributing producer for an ACU film, Choosing Life, the history of the pro-life movement.
Paul Reed D.O.
Paul Reed D.O. was born and raised in Guymon, OK. After graduating from Oklahoma Panhandle State, Dr. Reed worked in the oil and gas industry from 1977-1991. From 1991-1995 Dr. Reed attended medical school at Oklahoma State University before completing his residency as Chief Resident in Family Medicine at Oklahoma University. After completing his residency, Dr. Reed opened his private practice in Guymon which served the Guymon community for 17 years. Dr. Reed enjoys gardening, astronomy, hiking, and sports. Dr. Reed is comfortable in seeing patients of all ages for any health concerns.
Kelly Faltyn, APRN, FNP-C
Kelly is nationally certified as a Family Nurse Practitioner and licensed by the Oklahoma Board of Nursing. A graduate from the University of Oklahoma College of Nursing, prior to becoming a Nurse Practitioner she spent 10 years as an RN in the operating room and the emergency department. Before moving to the panhandle she specialized in pediatrics and continues to enjoy seeing children as well as adults. From New Mexico, Kelly has called Oklahoma home for 11 years. A wife and mother, Kelly enjoys spending time with her husband, Tim, and family, playing with her two boys and spending time outdoors. She is actively involved in the Guymon and Goodwell communities.
Belinda Burton-Garinger MBS, LPC/S, RPT/S
Belinda received her Master Degree in Behavioral Science from Northwestern Oklahoma State University in Alva, OK in 1997 and achieved her status as an OK Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) in 2000. In 2003 she completed the post-Master requirements for designation as a Registered Play Therapist. Belinda also holds Supervisor endorsement for both her LPC and RPT credentials.
Belinda utilizes an integrative approach in the delivery of trauma-informed behavioral health services to children and adults who may be experiencing a variety of life circumstances and diagnoses. She believes that through a collaborative relationship with their counselor, older children and adults can learn to positively change how negative perceptions and spontaneous thoughts about situations influences their emotions and behaviors. For children, Belinda utilizes play therapy because "play is the language of children, and toys are their words."
In addition to her counseling services, Belinda has provided continuing education trainings at both the state and national levels.
Tonjua Sherrill, MS, LMFT
Tonjua Sherrill is a Marriage and Family Therapist licensed in Oklahoma and Kansas. Most of her 20+ year career has been spent working with youth and their families using a collaborative, strengths-based therapy approach. She focuses on providing a welcoming environment where people can feel safe unloading their “baggage” regardless of what brought them in for counseling.
Types of therapy Tonjua uses include Play Therapy, Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT), Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT), Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), and Mindfulness to assist and support others to be the author of their own lives.
Tonjua sees children, teens, adults, geriatrics, couples and families. Tonjua addresses depression, anxiety, bipolar, grief, trauma, suicide, crisis, patterns of conflict in relationships and LGBTQIA+.
Tonjua enjoys spending time with her family, this includes her four-legged family members. Ginger and Abby are therapy dogs and at times accompany her to work and provide “therapy”. Tonjua enjoys connecting with others and feels privileged listening to others share their stories with her.
Ginger Dahl, LPC, MACE, MAMFC
Ginger Dahl holds two Masters' degrees in Christian Education and Marriage and Family Counseling, and is a licensed counselor in the States of Texas and Oklahoma. She holds further certifications in trauma, post-traumatic stress disorder, and equine assisted therapy.
Ginger believes that Life can be overwhelming at times. No one is immune to struggles and hardship. The pain of these struggles can cause an imbalance in our lives and leave us feeling anxious, fearful and sometimes "stuck." There is no shame in asking for help. It takes courage to change. She is here to help.
Throughout her life working in different helping professions, she has developed a passion for those who have survived early childhood trauma, struggled with mood disorders, and those struggling to be freed from addiction.
Over the years, it has been her honor to help families repair broken relationships; and see individuals overcome tremendous obstacles.
Melissa Duren, CMII
Melissa Duren is a Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor (CADC). She holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology from Oklahoma Panhandle State University, and has worked in substance abuse for over a decade, serving both juveniles and adults.
Melissa has worked both with inpatient and outpatient populations in Oklahoma and Texas. In addition, she has taught courses in Anger Management and the Drug Offender Education Program (DOEP), along with various other psychoeducational and relapse prevention groups. She is also a certified Case Manager II in the state of Oklahoma. She believes that achieving recovery from addiction takes time, dedication, and a support system.
Outside of her job, Melissa enjoys movies, road trips, and spending time with her husband and family.
Elizabeth Ogbonna, PHMNP-BC
Elizabeth Ogbonna, PHMNP-BC, a psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner with several years of experience in the psychiatric health. Elizabeth Ogbonna is presently working with Panhandle Counseling and health center as a psychiatric nurse practitioner. Elizabeth Ogbonna acquired her master's degree from Walden University, her passion is improving health and empowerment.
Our Office setting is patient friendly and handicapped accesible. Elizabeth Ogbonna attends to mental illness of all age groups. she is dedicated, goal oriented, emphatetic, and skillful professional whose goal is to contribute positively to her community. Elizabeth Ogbonna attends to each person as a unique individual and helping them achieve the best treatment outcome. Elizabeth Ogbonna is available in the Office Monday through Friday, walk-ins are welcome.
Nayely Mesta Esquivel, CM II
Nayely Mesta-Esquivel has lived in Optima Oklahoma since she was 3 months old and is excited to be part of the Behavioral Health team at PCHC. Nayely graduated from Guymon High School and completed her Associates Degree at SCCC and went on to OPSU and achieved her Bachelor of Science in Psychology.
Nayely has completed Case Manager training and is credentialed through Oklahoma as a Case Manager II. Nayely is bilingual with English and Spanish and will be able to provide services in both languages to meet needs, get resources engaged, and offer a welcoming environment. Services Nayely will be providing on an individual and group basis include parenting, anger management, and light therapy.
Nayely enjoys spending time with her family especially her nephew and nieces, her boyfriend, running and going to the gym. She identifies herself as an outgoing person with a kind heart and hopes to make her patients feel like they have someone they can count on.
